According to analytical data from the two companies, Twitch enjoyed record-high ratings in 2021, and Facebook Gaming also recorded good growth.
StreamElements and Rainmaker have released their 2021 streaming status report. The report states that viewers on Twitch spent 24 billion hours watching others play games.
In terms of viewership, Twitch had a record year and compared to 2020 recorded a growth in viewership of as much as 45%.
And it's not just Twitch that is growing - streaming on Facebook is also becoming more popular, with 47% more views than last year.
Grand Theft Auto 5 was the most-watched title on Twitch in 2021 with 2.1 billion hours of viewing. Compared to the previous year, GTA 5 recorded an incredible 175% increase in viewership, primarily as a result of numerous streamers starting to play GTA Online on private, role-play servers.
The second most-watched game on Twitch was League of Legends with 1.8 billion hours of viewing, up 28.5% from last year. Fortnite is in third place with the most viewed titles with a billion hours of viewing, which is a slightly lower growth of 10.6%, but it is still an impressive result.
